SeptemberMorn: As we stand on Your word Holy Spirit, rain down
SeptemberMorn: No eye has seen, no ear has heard
SeptemberMorn: No mind can know what God has in store
recluse12430 has left the room.
SeptemberMorn: So open up heaven, open it wide

SeptemberMorn: Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down
SeptemberMorn: Oh Comforter and Friend How we need Your touch again
SeptemberMorn: Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down
SeptemberMorn: Let Your power fall Let Your voice be heard

SeptemberMorn: In Jesus name we pray, Amen
greenpepper: amen
eskielover: thank you Tomi, That is beautiful
eskielover: amen
recluse1: AMEN! that was lovely
SeptemberMorn: thank you. It’s wonderous how the Holy Spirit works! :)
SeptemberMorn: If ya’ll didn’t go to youtube just now, please listen to it later. It’s beautiful!
eskielover: It was amazing..I grew up knowing about the Holy Spirit….it wasn’t until just lately I understood what an important role the Spirit has in our lives
greenpepper: mmm not sure i do understand
recluse1: so thankful you are sharing it with us too!
SeptemberMorn: What don’t you understand, Pepper?
greenpepper: the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives…….i guess its something you experience to understand ? ?
eskielover: this bible study was what brought it to understanding for me
SeptemberMorn: maybe… I know I feel more in God’s plan now that we’ve been in this Bible Study. Things happen that have no explanation other than His leading
greenpepper: wow
recluse1: we all experience it daily…just sometimes we aren’t able to recognize
SeptemberMorn: The Joy is there, too, even through hard times.
eskielover: It
greenpepper: i guess its one of those things i believe you believe
eskielover: I
SeptemberMorn: you’ll believe it, too, as time goes on, Pepper. :)
SeptemberMorn: Debbie, you okay?
anna342: me?
SeptemberMorn: Eskielover, Hon :)
eskielover: having typing problems….sorry…sitky key…got me or something
eskielover: ok now
anna342: ohh gd gd, i didn’t think you knew my real name!!
SeptemberMorn: whew!
SeptemberMorn: Anna, I didn’t! LOL
_Sky entered the room.
SeptemberMorn: no worries, Anna.
eskielover: hi sky…welcme….just getting started
_Sky: oooo lots of pale faces :(
_Sky: Ok thanks!
recluse1: God gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us and communicate with us, kind of like Christ’s consciousness within ourself,
recluse1: hi…welcome
recluse1: did that make any sense Pepper?
eskielover: God sent the Holy spirit after Christ ws raised from the dead so that we would have guidance as Christ was here on earth
greenpepper: kind of……..sometimes its like reading how to type…and without typing it seems foreign
recluse1: lol, i understand. we are all learning here.
eskielover: will continue from last week
SeptemberMorn: pretty soon, you’ll be “typing”, Pepper ;)
greenpepper: :)
_Sky: could everyone go bold for me?
SeptemberMorn: don’t hesitate to ask Eski any guestions, ok?
recluse1: 1 sec
greenpepper: how do u do bold?
eskielover: I left off with the question of what will be the basis for rewards from Christ…..Rev 22:12
_Sky: click on the B in the lower left corner
greenpepper: nvmd
_Sky: :(
_Sky: :)
SeptemberMorn: There’s a B at the botttom of your screen…
SeptemberMorn: lol you got it
recluse1: got it
eskielover: testing
eskielover: that looks bold to me????
SeptemberMorn: yes, Deb :)
greenpepper: bold helps me too……thanks for suggesting it sky
eskielover: It does look better
_Sky: tks
recluse1: no prob!
SeptemberMorn: only drawback is that if you write something long, you lose it on the right hand side.
_Sky: We’re studying Revelation?
SeptemberMorn: you can slide your participants box and make it smaller
SeptemberMorn: No, Fruit of the S pirit, Sky
recluse1: just scripture reference i think sky
eskielover: no we are introducing the fruit of the spirit….& the works of the spirit & how they show in our lives…using other books of the bible also
_Sky has left the room.
eskielover: We know that judgment is by grace, but it is also by works
greenpepper: its by works?
eskielover: Rev 22:12 the fact is that the works happen only because of the grace
eskielover: Give to everyone according to what he has done
anna342 has left the room.
eskielover: Romans 2:6 explaines it
eskielover: Paul not contradicting that a person is not saved by what he does but by faith in what Christ does for him
eskielover: The good words of the believer give evidence that he has faith
eskielover: seen good works give evidence of unseen faith
eskielover: it is the spirit that is in us that allows us to do the good works
eskielover: Eph 2:8-10
eskielover: explaines that we are god’s workmanship
eskielover: created in Christ Jesus to do good works
eskielover: doing good works but not believing in Christ….god knows our hearts that is the final determination
eskielover: That is the spirit in us that gives us the ability to do the works according to God’s desire
SeptemberMorn: doing good works without the love of God… are empty
eskielover: exactly
greenpepper: mmm
recluse1: that is a new way of looking at it for me
recluse1: always saw it as my listening to the spirit
eskielover: The next area that we are going to look at is what the 10 characteristics are of living the crucified life
greenpepper: if its the spirit allows us to do good works………can we be held accountable for good works?
SeptemberMorn: doing good things in the name of Jesus because that’s what he would have done is what counts
recluse1: cool to see it is the spirit within me
eskielover: The good works come from our love of God
SeptemberMorn: you get credit for doing good works in Jesus’ name, Pepper
SeptemberMorn: exactly, Debbie
eskielover: that causes us to do the good works….but it isn’t the good works that get’s us to heaven
recluse1: right!
eskielover: they go hand in hand…..loving God, having the Spirit in us to guide our actions, believing in Christ is what allows the Holy Spirit into our hearts
greenpepper: get credit? is that the jewel thing on our heads or something like that?

…end of part 1…

  1. septembermorn Says:

trying again to post part 2

greenpepper: i dont know if i remembered that right
SeptemberMorn: something like that, Pepper. We’ll all have a crown for sure.
    eskielover: It could be
SeptemberMorn: close enough for now. LOL
eskielover: in Rev 20:12, it says the dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books
recluse1: each will be measured by thier work and deed that is recorded in heaven
    greenpepper: thats scary………
    greenpepper: im toast
    SeptemberMorn: no, you’re not.
    eskielover: not really
SeptemberMorn: you still have the rest of your life
recluse1: noooo, no burnt toast in heaven, lol.
eskielover: I know there are periods wher it seems that way
    SeptemberMorn: lol
recluse1: i think we all feel tht way at sometime in our life pepper
eskielover: but the spirit does work & that is where God’s grace comes into the picture when we are sorry for those actions & repent
recluse1: great thing about forgiveness is we can get a do-over!
    SeptemberMorn: yep!
greenpepper: if we ask for forgivness is that page of the book erased?
    SeptemberMorn: exactly!
    recluse1: yes, i believe so
eskielover: exactly……when we are truely sorry & stop the sin
greenpepper: or good thing heaven is eternity..smirks….have multivolume set
eskielover: we can’t just say we are sorry & go on doing the same thing however
    SeptemberMorn: LOL
    recluse1: good point eskie
recluse1: to truly repent we must turn away from it
SeptemberMorn: no, that’s where baptism comes in. It’s dying to the old self and coming into a new life
    _Sky entered the room.
    SeptemberMorn: wb
_Sky: WOW Satan fights me hard!
    recluse1: lol…wb
    eskielover: lol
    _Sky: tks
greenpepper: …sometimes i think i’m totally unaware what is sin in my life…and if thoughts are sin… back to toast theory
    greenpepper: wb sky
    eskielover: wb
_Sky: Sorry, did my comment about the Reward in Rev. 22 make it up?
SeptemberMorn: thought can be temptations, Pepper. If you don’t fall, you don’t sin.
eskielover: it’s something we work on & as we will see, as the Spirit is in us, those behaviors become a thing of the past & thr fruit takes over
_Sky: Are we all born - again Christians in here tonight?
    eskielover: yes, sky, it did
    _Sky: k
eskielover: we aren’t defining that at this point….we are work in progress Christians
SeptemberMorn: things of the past. AMEN!
_Sky: ok the other thing I was going to put up was that there are 5 crowns potentially available for us to receive at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
_Sky it’s not a sin to be tempted
eskielover: it’s only a sin if we act of the temptation
    SeptemberMorn: that’s what I meant
_Sky but then, I don’ t believe that a true Christian can sing as non believers
    _Sky: sin
_Sky some can’t sing either :)
eskielover: Getting back to the bible study ….we are going tolook at the characteristics of living the cricified life of Christ in us
    _Sky: k
    recluse1: k
greenpepper: i hope my ego doesnt mind if im the only one in heaven without a crown………..i hope i’ll be grateful just to be in in the presence of Jesus
    greenpepper: k
    recluse1: (((((((GP))))))))
SeptemberMorn: so will I, Pepper ;)
_Sky: pepper, are you watching for His return?
eskielover: we all will be in the same position pepper….right there with you
SeptemberMorn: back to the Bible study, please
    recluse1: yes, sorry
_Sky: that’s a characteristic of living a crucified life for Christ…
eskielover: When we are living the crucified life of Christ, few will understand us
    SophiaG entered the room.
    eskielover: Galatians 2:20
    SeptemberMorn: Hi, Sophia. Welcome :)
eskielover: I have been crucified with Christ & I no longer live,
eskielover: but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body
    SophiaG: hello
eskielover: I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me & gave himself for me
    greenpepper: hi sophia…waves
    bebop entered the room.
    SeptemberMorn: Hi, Be! :)
    SophiaG is going to Lobby
    SophiaG has left the room.
    bebop: hi tomi
    greenpepper: hi bebop….
    bebop: hi pepper
_Sky it’s interesting to note that it’s not OUR faith we live by…but Christ’s
    recluse1: yes, i agree
_Sky: “I live by the faith of the Son of God
eskielover: if we look at the desiples, they didn’t understand what Christ was going through either
greenpepper: …tries to decipher what this means…..
eskielover: I live by faith in the Son of God
    SeptemberMorn: what, Pepper?
    _Sky: …it’s the faith of
_Sky: very important point imo, sorry.
eskielover: Jesus struggle was that he placed his suffering into his Fathers hand…not as I will but as you will, Matt 26:36-46
bebop: but we have to have faith. the grain of a mustard seed
SeptemberMorn: as small as, Be :)
greenpepper: not sure what this means….”we stop living when you have been crucified in Christ ”
    bebop: yep
_Sky: yes, but it isn’t OUR faith. That makes it possible because it’s Christ’s faith we take
eskielover: 2) We must abandon our own will & our own agenda
    _Sky: //11
SeptemberMorn: what Debbie said, Pepper. #2
    w_Sky: ?
    bebop: yes sky?
    _Sky: waiting.
    _Sky impatiently?
    _Sky: :)
eskielover: Christ was able to overcome His negative feelings toward his death Heb 12:2
eskielover: by focusing on accomplishing our eternal redemption & his glorification at the right hand of God’s throne
eskielover: the future outweighed the actual death
eskielover: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author & perfecter
eskielover: of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross
eskielover: also we look at 1 Cor 2:9-10
eskielover: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived
    mssumom entered the room.
eskielover: what God has prepared for those who love him
SeptemberMorn: Hi, Hon! Welcome to our Bible study! :)
eskielover: But God has revealed it to us by his Spirit
bebop: mssu!!! dang been a long time!
    recluse1: welcome mssumom
mssumom: very long time! I’ve missed everybody
eskielover: The Spirit searches all things even the deep things of God
eskielover: When we look to what is to come & our eternity with God, we can give up our own will now
recluse1: to live in the spirit and not in the flesh…right?
eskielover: 3) your intimate spiritual companions will be few
    _Sky has 1
    bebop: brb
    eskielover: Matt 26:36-39
eskielover: Where it talks about Jesus praying alone in his time of great stress
eskielover: it’s not spiritual elitism….but there are just few who choose to walk this same road
_Sky can’t even begin to imagine the weight of the sin of the whole world, past present and future!
eskielover: I think that Jesus praying alone to his Father when he was going through the stress, knowing what he was going through & the weight of the sins he was dying for
eskielover: shows us that when we are in stress, it is when we need to have our alone time to pray to God through the Son
    _Sky through the Son?
SeptemberMorn: Jesus was under such stress that he sweat blood. It’s a scientific fact that people will do that.
eskielover: We pray to the Father in the name of Christ
recluse1: Christ is the bridge between heaven and earth, we pray in His name
recluse1: well, I do anyway. maybe not all believe as I do
eskielover: Yes, that must have been unbelievable stress to sweat blood
_Sky ok. We pray to the Father directly, because Christ died for our sin and with the mediator of the Holy Spirit… but to the Father directly
eskielover: I am not going to get into that here
_Sky: sorry, just concerned that we are mixing terms sorry.
eskielover: terms that are doctrinal issues aren’t part of what we are dealing with
    SeptemberMorn: thank you, Debbie :)
eskielover: #4 requires intense times of aloneness with God
    bebop: like a prayer closet
eskielover: You need to have one on one time to focus
SeptemberMorn: I do it in my rose garden
eskielover: many times when we are in the middle of our deepest difficulties…..where is everyone anyway….It’s God who withholds others to pull us to him
eskielover: That is where we find our strength
SeptemberMorn: I’m here to tell you!
SeptemberMorn: whenever I feel I need to talk about some deep pain, there is never anyone
eskielover: The rose garden it a wonderful place for being alone
    greenpepper: ……think i’m lost……
SeptemberMorn: available to me. That’s when I know He wants me to talk to HIM about it. :)
SeptemberMorn: where did we lose you, Pepper?
eskielover: yes, where did we loose you…..will try to help
    _Sky: //34
greenpepper: what are these 5 characteristics of again? sorry
eskielover: 1) Few will understand us
eskielover: 2) You must abandon your own will & your own agenda
eskielover: 3) your intimate spiritual companions will be few
    SeptemberMorn: a “crucified life” Pepper
SeptemberMorn: having given up our will to God
greenpepper: lost the forrest for the trees
    SeptemberMorn: :)
eskielover: I’m sorry….yes, it’s what our life is like believing & living our lives with Christ as our crucified savior
greenpepper: ok thanks….couldn’t scroll that far back
    Metaphysical entered the room.
    eskielover: sorry
    Metaphysical: howdy lil buckaroos
    recluse1: welcome MP
SeptemberMorn: Hi, Meta. We’re in the middle of a Bible study.
    Metaphysical: want me to leave?
    SeptemberMorn: no
    recluse1: welcome to join us
mssumom: God certainly lead me back here and specifically to this room at a time when I needed it most. I don’t want to interrupt just had to put that in here though.
eskielover: 5) You will be constantly on the witness stand
_Sky got real screen freeze I think
SeptemberMorn gives MMS a biiiiig hug!
    recluse1: ((((((mssumom))))
    eskielover: Hebrews 13: 12-14
SeptemberMorn: Recluse, see that? We’re always on the witness stand. ;)
Metaphysical: long time atheist, recently started going to catholic church
    _Sky has left the room.
Metaphysical: some of you i have met, most I haven’t
SeptemberMorn: you can sit and learn, MP
    bebop: hi meta and congrats!
recluse1: yes, i see. TY for the pep talk too BTW
    SeptemberMorn: //33
eskielover: Christ suffered outside of Jerusalem for our sins
bebop: may I address the witness stand?
    recluse1: sure
    SeptemberMorn: lol go for it
bebop: the way I interpret that is that once we become christians we are upheld to a higher standard. we are what people see.
    eskielover: jesus bore shame
bebop: in our attitudes, in our language, in our behavior
eskielover: & disgrace….we must be willing to face the same
recluse1: i am in ageement with that Be
    SeptemberMorn: we certainly are!
eskielover: Jesus suffered outside of Jerusalem
bebop: we are forever changed and need to come across to others as changed
eskielover: we must be willing to leave the comforts of home for him
recluse1: yes, others should be able to see His love through our lives
eskielover: Jesus was not ashamed of us…we should not be ashaed of HIm
    recluse1: amen, eskie
bebop: exactly but it is so much more than the love we are suppose to show others
    recluse1: much more, yes
greenpepper: leave the comforts of home? all become missionaries or something?
bebop: I am very disturbed by some I know irl that are suppose to be christians. it saddens me
    eskielover: not exactly
SeptemberMorn: only if the Holy Spirit leads you that way, Pepper. You just need to be willing.
greenpepper: or step out in faith to where the HS prompts us
recluse1: more like witnesses of Christ I think Pepper
eskielover: Pepper, there are many times when the choices we have to make aren’t the popular ones
eskielover: It just means that we can’t sit back in our status quo
recluse1: it’s not always easy to live a life that is pleasing to God
SeptemberMorn: Pepper, you’ve got it right
recluse1: your last comment says it well Pepper
eskielover: you said it perfectly Pepper
    mssumom: very well said
eskielover: 6) there will be times when God forces us outside our comfort zone
bebop: you have to really listen to your heart. It could be the Holy Spirit telling you where to go and what to do
greenpepper: thinks still got cotton in the ears of my heart……dont hear that much
Metaphysical is going to Support Chat
    Metaphysical has left the room.
eskielover: Matt 27:27-31 talks about how they scorned Christ before his crucifiction
bebop: pepper that is when that prayer closet is really needed
eskielover: the shame & indignity he endured for us…..definitely not a comfort zone
recluse1: yes, much revealed by power of prayer Be
bebop: yes I agree hon. humble ourselves to Him
eskielover: that’s ok Pepper…..at first, it’s just a faint whisper
    eskielover: but that’s ok
    greenpepper: ……thanks for the encouragement
eskielover: 7th characteristis of our life in the Curcified Christ is that there are times when our dignity is forfeited
SeptemberMorn: that’s what it’s all about, Pepper :)
eskielover: we all need encouragement Pepper….that’s why fellowship with other Christians is so important
eskielover: Matt 27:32-44 talks about Christ surrendering his rights when he had the power to come down from the cross to save himself, but didn’t because it was God’s will & plan
eskielover: How much strength would we have had to follow through in that situation?
recluse1: no doubt more than I have got!
bebop: we would have died while we were being beaten
    SeptemberMorn: for sure!
greenpepper: it takes me much strength even in little things……………like not to return hatred with hatred…………
greenpepper: that didnt come out right…….but i know what i meant….lol
bebop: pepper try loving not hatred. that is what we as christians are suppose to do.
eskielover: that is part of the fruit of the spirit….self control when we get to that…the Spirit gives us the strength to not return hatred with hatred
    SeptemberMorn: I understood, Pepper
recluse1: just want to say, i am really loving being here and all sharing and learning together.
eskielover: it’s our growing in God with the Holy Spirit in us where we get the ability to live as God want us to
eskielover: I love the sharing with everyone too…..
recluse1: amen and this is helping me soo much
eskielover: it’s wonderful that the bible study is also sharing
eskielover: I think this is exciting
SeptemberMorn: I feel so “well fed”! LOL
    recluse1: full of the Spirit!
    greenpepper: lol sept
eskielover: The Spirit is working as we prayed for
    SophiaG entered the room.
SeptemberMorn: Pepper, you know how you feel when you’ve had a really, really good meal?
    recluse1: wb sophia
eskielover: 8) we must forgo our rights
SophiaG is going to Social Chat

SophiaG: ok i’m staying now =)
    SeptemberMorn: lol ok
eskielover: he could have called for all the help of heaven but he followed God’s will
greenpepper: oh ya sept………..sure do…….i was eating a huge piece of cheese when you said that….
    SeptemberMorn: ;)
eskielover: & then in Matt 27:34, 48, Christ even refuese the drink offered him while on the cross to dull the pain
greenpepper: ohhhh forego or let go…….of our rights
    recluse1: samething
    recluse1: give up
SophiaG: why didnt he accept the drink?
greenpepper: ya i first read ‘go for our rights’
bebop: it was not God’s will that he drink it
    SophiaG: ohh
SeptemberMorn: it was a sponge soaked in water and vinegar
    SophiaG: wasnt it wine?
    SeptemberMorn: no
eskielover: It was also that it was an anesthetic to dull the pain
eskielover: according to the study bible I read
recluse1: He was to suffer for all the sins according to God’s plan for Him
SeptemberMorn: I never knew it had an anesthetic in it
SophiaG: well if it was wine…
eskielover: In Heb 2:9, that explaines that
SophiaG: it’d make sense to me that it’d be anesthetizing
    SophiaG has left the room.
bebop: remind me to get the velcro
    SophiaG entered the room.
eskielover: 9) we must accept that death is painful
    greenpepper: we do?
    SophiaG has left the room.
    bebop grabs the velcro
    SeptemberMorn: lol
eskielover: even though our experience differs from that of Christ
bebop: sorry that is so disrupting
    eskielover: that’s ok
eskielover: these computer links do that at times
eskielover: & 10) Because he was forsaken, we never will be
eskielover: That is something we can’t even experience is the depth of what Christ went through with all our sins he was dying for
greenpepper: ptl Jesus for bearing our sins
    SeptemberMorn: amen!
eskielover: This is probably a good place to end the bible study tonight….
bebop: no way can we imagine the love He has for us.
eskielover: we can continue with discussion
SeptemberMorn: especially those of us who have never experienced unconditional love in this life
greenpepper: can i just ask one question?
mssumom: A big AMEN to that bebop
recluse1: no way to remotely measure a love that strong!
    recluse1: sure GP
    eskielover: surePepper
greenpepper: crucified to Christ means ?
SeptemberMorn: all the questions you have, Pepper
greenpepper: surrendering (dying) our will to Christ? ?
eskielover: It means that we believe that he has died for our sins
SeptemberMorn: Giving up our own will
SeptemberMorn: and living like God wants us to.
SeptemberMorn: To know exactly, we need to listen to the Holy Spirit.
recluse1: no matter our personal pain in doing so
SeptemberMorn: I think you’re doing it just by being here, Pepper.
bebop: it is very very hard for us to completely surrender ourselves because we are of flesh.
greenpepper: yes sept to your earlier comment about unconditional love…………..i’m still looking for the strings
eskielover: that is the first fruit of the spirit that we will touch on is LOVE
    SophiaG entered the room.
    recluse1: lol, wb sophia
eskielover: there are sever types of love
greenpepper: sometimes i doubt my salavation and commitment to our Lord………i fear my heart is too damaged/hardened………..i do not experience alot of what i hear other people share
    eskielover: several types
SeptemberMorn: the only strigs God has on his love is that you love Him backn
eskielover: Pepper…..I have been there too
    SeptemberMorn: screen freeze
SeptemberMorn: Pepper, I think we all experience that
eskielover: what is wonderful is that you may feel that way now….but it’s a growing thing
recluse1: yea, i do too at times Pepper.
SeptemberMorn: His love will soften your heart
SophiaG: ooo what are the 7 types?
    SophiaG: =)
bebop: pepper if I may say this to you. often times we as christians at some point in time have doubts, it is then we need to really get down on our knees and humble ourselves to Him. pray to Him and He will soften us. give yourself to Him.
    recluse1: several types
    SophiaG: oh
    recluse1: well said Be
greenpepper: i just pray to be of service…….i’ve given up on happiness and joy………………………………..thank u bebop….
    bebop: ty
    eskielover: yes Be
SophiaG: i think my sunday school teacher mentioned 3 types of love
SeptemberMorn: Agape - God inspiried love, unconditional
    SeptemberMorn: Eros - sexual
    SeptemberMorn: or romantic
bebop: pepper by giving up on happiness and joy you are taking away from God. you can’t give it up hon
eskielover: the best thing I found to pray for it for the Holy Spirit to guide my life
    SophiaG: what about sibling love?
    SeptemberMorn: and familial love
    SophiaG:

  2. septembermorn Says:

This time I wasn’t able to follow with all of my attention to the Bible study of this last Monday so I went back and re-read the Scriptures given for this study. Here is what I came up with and it was made very clear to me.

I hope than in reading this, the lesson becomes clearer to you. Some had questions and I do believe they’ve been answered here.

I only got so far but I’ll continue again tomorrow. :)

What is faith? How to we get faith?

Rom 10:17 So then faith (*4102) [cometh] by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

*4102 conviction of the truth of anything, belief; in the New Testament, of a conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervor born of faith and joined with it
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according(ly) as his work shall be.

    Rewards:
Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Rom 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

    Rom 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

Rom 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

Rom 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Salvation is by GRACE, acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and not by our own works. Works come from faith and the Holy Spirit abiding in us.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

SeptemberMorn: doing good works without the love of God… are empty
    eskielover: exactly

1Chorintians 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love (charity), these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1Cr 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ died (is dead) in vain.

eskielover: I live by faith in the Son of God

New Living Translation: I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Matt 26:36-46 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
Mat 26:37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
Mat 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
Mat 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt (will).

    From the New Living Translation:

Mat 26:36 Then Jesus brought them to an olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go on ahead to pray.”
Mat 26:37 He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he began to be filled with anguish and deep distress.
Mat 26:38 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and watch with me.”
Mat 26:39 He went on a little farther and fell face down on the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine.”

Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1Cr 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

1Cr 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Hebrews 13: 12-14 (New Living Translation) So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates in order to make his people holy by shedding his own blood.

The Crucified Live - we can possibly be asked to be treated as Christ was.
    Jesus’ sufferings:
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band [of soldiers].
Mat 27:28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
Mat 27:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put [it] upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
Mat 27:30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
Mat 27:31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify [him].
Mat 27:32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
Mat 27:33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
Mat 27:34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
Mat 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
    Mat 27:36 And sitting down they watched him there;
Mat 27:37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Mat 27:38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
Mat 27:39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
Mat 27:40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest [it] in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Mat 27:41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking [him], with the scribes and elders, said,
Mat 27:42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
Mat 27:43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
Mat 27:44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

We also share in his rewards: (I’m going to look for more rewards as they are listed in the Bible.)
Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Hbr 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Hbr 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

(ggrrr I think I know what’s causing the problem; typing “shift, period.”)

recluse1: Pepper, do you remember the overwhelming joy you felt when you received Christ?
    SophiaG: *shuts up*
    SeptemberMorn: LOL No need to
eskielover: With the Holy spirit guiding….then comes being of service as the Holy Spirit points out those things
greenpepper: no i dont recluse……….thats why i doubt things
eskielover: I know for me, my parents were Christian & I just grew up going to church….so it was just a thing to do
    recluse1: ((((((GP)))))))
SeptemberMorn: we don’t need to expect that overwhelming joy. sometimes it just comes as a knowledge that you cannot, will not doubt
bebop: pepper the bible tells us to do our first works over. to me this means getting back to the basics of even asking God back into our lives. maybe you have backslidden a wee bit

  4. septembermorn Says:

Those of you who are King James Version all the way, I encourage you to check these Bible passages and if you notice any differences, please post to that effect and quote your King James Scriptures. :)

    1 Corinthians 3:13
So, Jesus goes over your life and for the things that you did that were for the Kingdom you are rewarded and for the things that you did “wrong” you receive nothing. (You are not punished. Remember that your sins are already taken care of by the death of Christ.)

    Revelation 4:10, 11
The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”

Throughout scripture the rewards are usually described metaphorically as Crowns. The imagery most often used is that of the Olympic winners of Paul’s time. The runners would receive wreaths of woven laurel wreath that were placed upon their heads as a sign of victory. However, a description of a heavenly crown we are not given and so all we know is that it is a type of crown that could be a symbol for recognition, a physical reward or anything else that demonstrates we have been rewarded.

At what point do we receive these crowns? The Bible is not specific as to the time of the Judgment Seat of Christ. It could be as early as the moment we set foot in heaven or as late as just before His second coming, because by this time the Saints are pictured as having received their rewards.

A description of the time of the Judgment Seat of Christ: I Corinthians 3:9-15
9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

    2 Corinthians 5:9, 10
9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

The Possibility of losing ones rewards
    Mark 9:41
41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.
    2 John 7:8
8 Look to your selves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that 3we may receive a full reward

Example of a crown as a reward.
    1 Peter 5:2-4
2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

So the rewards that we get are not about us or about us gaining renown but about doing God’s will and bringing more glory to God.

  5. Anon Says:

To help clarify when we receive our rewards, Revelation 4:1 gives us the answer: right after the “come up hither” which is the Rapture of the believers before the tribulation.
Luke 14:14 says: Thou shalt be recompensed (rewarded) at the resurrection of the just. (rapture)
Also in 1 Peter 5:4 which says: And when the chief Shepherd shall appear (His coming) ye shall receive a crown of glory.
The Judgment Seat of Christ (for believers) must take place before we are crowned and then we lay these crowns at Christ’s feet (Rev. 4 vs 10,11)

It is very important to remember that non-believers are not given crowns for their works. Works done without having first been forgiven of sin, will only burn up like wood, hay and stubble. That’s all they will have to present to Christ at the Great White Throne Judgment, and it won’t be enough, because they rejected Jesus’ payment for their sin.

  6. anon Says:

Another thought: there is no such thing as a “good” work by someone who is not a child of God. They are just “works” and will burn up into nothing before Him. So the thinking that someone has of doing good works to get into heaven is a misnomer.
The only time you can do good work(s) is after you are a follower of Christ, a true believer, having trusted totally in His unmerited favor for salvation (as so noted above.)

    Ephesians 2:8-9 , I Corinthians 3:13-15, Revelation 20:11-15, Romans 9:10-11,Titus 3:5

  7. recluse1 Says:

i like how you posted the scriptures to go along with what you posted. it is always most helpful when we can go into God’s Word and look at these things ourselves. that little extra effort is very much appreciated!
